What are the responsibilities of the Neighborhood Block Watch Captain?
The role of Captain is to serve as the coordinator and liaison for the Neighborhood Block Watch group. This may include:
· Maintaining an updated list of all member names, addresses, emails and phone numbers. An emergency contact person is also recommended.
· Set up a communication network for your area. This might include emails groups, text message groups, social media groups. Or the old fashion telephone tree or neighborhood mapping like NextDoor.com.
· Provide sign-in sheets for attendees at your Block Watch function. You will need to provide the Buckeye Police Department with a copy for their records. Keep a copy for your records. A sample sign-in sheet is attached.
· Greet new neighbors that move into the neighborhood. Provide them with an informational brochure regarding the program and encourage them to get involved and be included in the Neighborhood contact groups.
· Should you decide to discontinue serving as a Block Captain, notify the Buckeye Police Department’s Neighborhood Service Manager in writing. It would be beneficial to the neighborhood if an alternate representative is established so the program will continue.
· To maintain an “Active” status, the Neighborhood Watch group has to have at least two meetings or activities during a calendar year. A representative from the Buckeye Police Department should be in attendance to facilitate answering any and all concerns.
Subject to the rights, if any, of a Neighborhood Watch Captain, Buckeye Police Department can remove the Captain with cause or for acts contrary to the goal of the program.
