Our Diverse Community
- From Novices to Masters: Our membership is a delightful mix of full-time and part-time Sun City Festival residents. Whether you’re a woodworking newbie or a seasoned craftsman with sawdust in your veins, you’ll find kindred spirits here. We celebrate the beauty of both beginner’s curiosity and the seasoned hand’s precision.
- Crafting Connections: Beyond the wood chips and sandpaper, we’re a community. Swap stories, share tips, and learn from each other. Whether you’re shaping a delicate jewelry box or constructing a sturdy bookshelf, there’s camaraderie in every grain of wood.
The Path to Membership
- Orientation Class: To join our ranks, start with our Orientation Class. Our doors swing open once a month (and occasionally twice) for orientation and training. It’s like the first cut into a fresh board—essential and exciting. During this session, we’ll introduce you to our shop, safety protocols, and the sweet smell of freshly cut pine. You’ll feel right at home.
- Core Training: Crafting Widgets: Next up, Core training! We believe in hands-on learning. You’ll create a widget—a small project that lets you explore our core shop tools and machines. Think of it as your woodworking passport. Once you’ve crafted your widget, you’re officially part of the crew.
- Progression and Discussion: As you hone your skills, we’ll discuss your progression. Our classes dive deep into techniques, joinery, and finishing touches. Whether you’re shaping curves or mastering dovetails, we’ve got your back.

Ready to Join?
Swing by the Craft Center, where our wood shop hums with creativity. Ask to speak with a Monitor—they’re the friendly faces in safety vests. They’ll hand you an application, guide you through the process, and make sure you’re all set. Oh, and don’t forget your short sleeve shirt, closed-toe shoes, and safety glasses—the unofficial uniform of our woodworkers.
